The Judge:

Julia Dolan is the esteemed judge for the Art of Photography Show 2013. Dr. Dolan is the Curator of Photography at the Portland Art Museum. Dr. Dolan holds a B.F.A. in Photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art, an M.A. in Art History from the Pennsylvania State University, and a Ph.D. in Art History from Boston University. She has worked with photography collections at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Addison Gallery of American Art, and the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University. Dr. Dolan’s responsibilities include researching and growing the permanent collection of the Portland Art Museum, including contemporary works.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of this competition and exhibition is that our judge is always a highly acclaimed museum curator. Most photographers feel that having their work exhibited in a museum is the ultimate goal. Yet, getting exposure to museum curators is normally very difficult. This project provides that opportunity.

Our goal is to provide as many tangible benefits as possible for the exhibiting artists. The cash awards, accolades, media coverage and sales revenue that we provide to the selected artists are substantial.

Marketing and Promotion:

  • Marketing and promotion for the Art of Photography Show is extensive, with national media coverage, cross-promotions, coverage on television and radio, as well as reaching thousands of fans and friends on social networks.
  • Invitations and numerous emails are sent to our list of 25,000 collectors, luxury consumers and art connoisseurs.
  • Tens of thousands of exhibition announcement cards about the Art of Photography Show are distributed to major cities across the US.

Choose your best images to present to Julia Dolan. The Discount Entry Deadline is January 20th!

NOTE: Although tickets are sold out, some are canceling their tickets if they won’t be able to make it. (Thank you to those thoughtful people!) Keep an eye on the Eventbrite registration page for last minute tickets.Otherwise walk-ins will be allowed allowed as space (and fire code) permits!

Courtesy of the Canon Explorers of Light, Nick Vedros<http://r20.rs6.net/tn.jsp?e=001pvtaLC_S5aWoYHF6EICoPJQQ2rQO7xIyTxkH10NbUEnbwbAkRvjh_arlfHkkspVEqqlfghjapci-AyO2a4tPGdsDjrehplh2FQ-jLnxKKGk=> presents a very informative, inspiring, and entertaining program on his approach to advertising and commercial photography. Join us as he examines the amazing images he has created throughout his career and explains his problem-solving methods.

Nick has become an icon in commercial photography over his many years in the business and he will discuss marketing and style, how to get your work seen, and the different approaches he has used during his career to gain national work.

Inspired by his uncle Mike’s B&W photographs on the family kitchen table when he was 13, Nick was inspired to attend the University of Missouri and earn a degree in Photojournalism in 1976. He then quickly found his true passion in the world of commercial photography. Anyone can look through a viewfinder, but there’s nothing simple about Nick’s multi-disciplinary approach for bringing a concept to life:

* Inspired imagination fueled by ingenuity
* State-of-the-art production resources
* An innovative studio team of hand-picked professionals
* Attentiveness to client satisfaction which is downright addictive

Nick’s work garners top honors from the Addys, the Effies, Archive International, Communication Arts, N.A.M.A., the Top 200 Advertising Photographers, and the Canon Explorer of Light program. He attracts blue-chip clients like Apple, Bayer, Capital One, Coca-Cola, DuPont, IBM, Kodak, Microsoft, Sony, and Sprint. On a Vedros shoot, every details is obsessively controlled. There is no shortage of creative inspiration or top shelf resources. Challenges are anticipated and addressed proactively. Nick creates an atmosphere of confidence that frees clients to concentrate on creative direction. The music is great, the panoramic views spectacular, the hospitality genuine, and the cumor constant. With Nick, you’re not just going to a photoshoot. Your having an entire creative experience. The Vedros Experience.
